Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy

For many of us, we seek therapy because we are struggling to break a pattern of thought, behaviour, or feeling that feels dysfunctional. Perhaps you’re consistently ending your days wishing you’d behaved differently. Or you’re struggling to adjust to a new phase of life the way you’d hoped to. Maybe you’re noticing other people handling situations differently to you and you wish you could do it that way too. At Asha Therapy, we can help you look inward to figure out what’s blocking you.

One of the types of therapy that we use primarily at Asha Therapy is internal family systems (IFS). In IFS, we understand that the psyche is made up of many different parts, each with their own area of focus. Mostly, we don’t notice this multitude of parts. It’s only when we are struggling to feel aligned within ourselves that we become aware of them.

IFS gives us the tools to meet with the parts of ourselves that don’t feel functional anymore. We sit with them compassionately, and become curious about why they push us to behave, think, or feel the way they do. Through this process we learn to understand why we are stuck in the pattern and gently unstick ourselves so we can be vibrant and present again.

We can help you engage in this deep internal conversation so that you can address painful and obstructive core beliefs you are carrying about yourself and the world. Through IFS, we learn to navigate through our lives more calmly and confidently, moving with intention and self-awareness, and experiencing more joy and contentment.
